Although the texture suggests it might be edible, the odor and taste are unpleasantly farinaceous.
Identification Notes:
The dark purple-black color of the fleshy cap and stipe, combined with the reddish tinged spines that extend for a considerable ways down the stipe make Sarcodon fuscoindicus easy to identify. Other PNW sarcodons are pale to medium-dark brown.
